Philadelphia’s Newest Hotel Opens Its Doors

9-19-16-courtyard-city-avenue-7-of-17Following eight months of construction, Philadelphia’s newest hotel – the Courtyard by Marriott Philadelphia City Avenue – has opened its doors.  The $12-million project is actually a conversion of a former Crowne Plaza Hotel that was completed by Canuso Jorden on an aggressive and phased schedule, while the hotel remained fully operational.

9-19-16-courtyard-city-avenue-2-of-17Beginning with the top floor and working down, the guest rooms and corridors were completely gutted and renovated into a contemporary, business-traveler theme that accommodated Marriott’s latest standards for both comfort and aesthetics.  Working on two or three floors at a time, the hotel’s entire guestroom tower was renovated in this fashion, returning completed floors to hotel management prior to beginning work on future floors.  Following the completion of the guestrooms floors, the main lobby was renovated including a new reception area, bistro, fitness center, theater, and back-of-house spaces.  In addition, the facility’s existing pool enclosure was demolished and a modern pool structure was erected while maintaining the existing pool itself.  The façade of the entire facility was also renovated incorporating both new EIFS panels and complementary painting.

bistroFollowing the completion of the transformation, the 333-room facility – which includes a Presidential Suite and two Junior Suites – has become one of the country’s largest hotels that is branded as a Marriott Courtyard.
